Split into 3 sections the City consists of the upper, lower and new part. The golden lady is set high up a pillar and was part of a memorial to the dead of the First World War. She became the symbol of the city. During the second world war she was hidden prior to the German occupation and was lost for many years until found hidden during the building of a football stadium. Early fortifications were created in the cliff faces overlooking the river.
