BAYPE at the Royal College of Music Percussion Festival

Some really Positive comments from the judges when the Percussion Ensemble Performed at the Royal College of Music Percussion Festival. Read them here >

........ Baby Elephant Walk - Mancini arranged W. Rapp

This is a nice arrangement which makes full use of the tuned percussion. The xylophone playing was very good, to a simple rhythmic accompaniment. The group were attentive to the conductorthroughout.

......... Latino Schmatino - Sheila Nolan

Sheila wrote this piece especially for the group months before she died. The performance was dedicated to her memory.

Again, the tuned percussion was very prominent and well done. Make sure that the accompanying percussion is not too loud. The group kept good time throughout.

........ Friend Like Me - Alan Merkin arr W. Rapp
This started with a nice rag-time feel on the drums. Again some excellent tuned percussion playing. The gear change toward the end was smoothly negotiated. Some good drum fills during the piece.

Summer Event .. How can parents and players help to make it a success.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The last musical extravaganza of the academic year will shortly be upon us with the Summer Concerts on Sunday 10th July 2016.

The Friends of BAYOC are asking for your support to make this an enjoyable event for all: 1. Can you or your child commit to just 1 hour to help support us on one of the Friends’ stalls? There are plenty to choose from across the six hours of the concerts: o second hand book stall
o guess the number of notes
o quiz
o teas, coffees and cold drinks
o BBQ, and
o hook a duck

o ice lollies (weather permitting).
o ping pong jars
o Brahms bear’s cousin raffle

o lucky lollipops

o raffle
o children’s tombola
o adult tombola

2. In return we will give you a free food and drink voucher for the BBQ. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis for your time and stall preference. Please either return the attached slip with your preferences to your musical director or it would be great if you could sign up directly through volunteer spot (http://vols.pt/vdmQCG). You will find performance timings for the ensembles on the 2nd page of this letter to help you decide what times you could help us.

Can you donate one or more of the following?
o An item suitable for the adult tombola
o An item suitable for any aged child for the children’s tombola
o An item you would wish to win in a raffle
o Second hand books
o Shop bought cakes and biscuits for us to put on the refreshments stall

All donations can be given to your musical director at one of the weekly rehearsals or brought directly to the concert hall. We thank you for your help and support and look forward to welcoming you to a fun packed musical day. Yours,

Anvil Concert

I think you will all agree the performances at the Anvil Concert were superb this year.

We received this tweet of congratulations from the Mayor who attended. ( Open Image to View)

We have once again recorded this concert and will be producing a £10 CD set, which is available to purchase by pre-order from your conductor.   Programmes sales were down this year as we sold only 208. Both these products are produced as mementos and priced to cover costs.

We had the largest number of volunteers helping us out this year and are very grateful for their support. It really does make the process easier with more people. This was the first time we have really had sufficient helpers.

100 Club Winners ( open image to view )

We awarded over £7,000 of prizes to members in the first three years. You can join using the information found here.
