The Basingstoke Area Youth Wind Training Orchestra (BAYWTO) was

formed in September 2001.

During the year they take part in the annual BAYO concert at the Anvil, and

perform in other concerts. For some years now they have had a workshop

day or weekend in February.

Children join us from schools all over the area, both junior and secondary,

and there are currently around 70 young musicians in the orchestra.

At present the youngest players are in Year 4 and the oldest in Year 12.

When the players reach about Grade 4 standard, they may move on to the

Basingstoke Area Youth Wind Orchestra, which rehearses immediately

after the Wind Training Orchestra.  There are also Hampshire County

groups available to them.

Membership is open to any woodwind, brass or percussion player

between Grade 1 standard and Grade 4. Exams do not have to be

taken, and there is no audition. We rehearse in the Gym at  Queen

Mary's College.

Hampshire Music Service charges a fee for Ensemble Membership, which during the school year 2016 - 17,  is £25 per term and for County Ensemble Membership is £35 per term. If your child belongs to more than one ensemble you will only pay one fee.  If your child is in a county and an area ensemble you will only pay the £35 County Ensemble fee.
